Savannah Martinez and Andres Rivera have been friends since high school.
She knew him better than anyone else, and he was the only one she ever confided in.
Their friendship was the one brilliant thing they each cherished that wasn’t tarnished by outside forces that wanted them apart.
But fate wasn’t on their side. When she gave him the chance to turn their relationship into something more, he let her go.
Heartbroken and alone, she kept her distance in more ways than one. Now, years later, Savannah is back in town for good and Andres realizes just how empty his life has been without her.
When a secret comes to light, forcing a deeper wedge between them, Andres finds himself fighting for the only woman he has ever loved. Determined to fix the past and make things right, he will go to any length to prove to Savannah that they were meant to be together.
Will fate give them a second chance? Or will those secrets and betrayals ruin the one last chance Andres has of being with the woman of his dreams?
Review
The first thing that I have to mention is the cover. It's absolutely gorgeous and I love, love, love it! It drew me in the minute that I saw it, and I couldn't help but picture that beautiful man every time I read about Andres.
This is the first MJ Abraham book for me, and I loved it. One of my favorite elements in a contemporary romance novel is the friends to lovers journey, and we definitely get that with Dre and Savannah. We also get both POVS, as well as past and present scenes, so we got a really good feel for how their relationship progressed, why it didn't at times, and how they finally came to be together. It was a beautifully woven tale and I was so glad that we were able to get into both the minds of the characters. It was a long ten year process, and I kept flipping through the pages to finally get to their HEA. Trust me, it's worth the long wait!
Savannah was a very strong female character, and she was a loyal, faithful friend. She loved Dre with everything that she had, and was always there when he needed her the most. Dre, although I could've shaken him a few times, he was sinfully sexy and swoon worthy. When he finally got his act together, he went after what he wanted with full force and I was rooting for him every step of the way.
The epilogue made me so freaking happy and I was cheering for Savannah and my heart was warming about how they ended up together. There was one element that was a little predictable at times, but then in the end there was a twist that I definitely did not see coming. I can't wait to go back and read Happenstance, nor can I wait to read more of MJ Abraham's work.
