Girl
with Guitar by Caisey Quinn
May 2013
New Adult. MA 17+ Content.
After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing
other than her crazy step-mother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When
Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus
to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing
and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked
to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country
music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come
true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t
pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.
A MESSAGE FROM CAISEY QUINN
Hey Girl, You Make Me
Want to Write A Song…
If you’ve
read any of the books in my Kylie Ryans series, you might recognize that line
from the popular Thomas Rhett song. “It Goes Like This,” is one of my all-time
favorite country songs and it appears on both the Girl with Guitar and Girl on
Tour soundtracks. Want to know why?
I love, LOVE
the idea of being able to inspire another person.
And here’s
why. Inspiration is one of the most magical things. You can’t force it and you
can’t fake it. It’s organic and wonderful and amazing. It can also be
terrifying. Like when I witnessed a young couple screaming at each other in the
Wal-Mart parking lot while their kiddo bawled in the buggy. I was immediately
inspired to write that story. Then my brain went: No. You’re not emotionally
ready for this. Stop it.
So
inspiration can be tricky. And it can come out of nowhere and from the most unusual
of places.
For instance,
I was at a Luke Bryan concert over a year ago chatting with random people—my
husband never meets a stranger—about singers Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.
One of the guys in our group spoke up and mentioned that his cousin Dallas had
written some songs with Blake. A few comments were made about Blake and
Miranda’s chemistry and how they first toured together when their careers were
in very different places. She was an up and comer no one really knew much
about, and he was big but seemed to be fading, struggling to hold on. Sound familiar?
It does if you’ve read my books.
Then I watched
Luke shake it for me for the next two hours. Thus, Kylie Ryans and Trace Corbin
were born. And currently, I’m listening carefully as they tell me the rest of
their story so that I can pass Girl in Love
onto you.
So for those
of you who’ve asked “what inspires you?” or “what inspired the Kylie Ryans series?”
there you have it. I’m the type of person who finds inspiration everywhere, all
the time. Music, movies, concerts, the grocery store. You name it.
I’ll be
gifting a digital download of an album from any of the artists mentioned in
this post to a random commenter. So tell me, what inspires you?
