SYNOPSIS

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.

TEASERS

EXCERPT

Van stood at the edge of her bed and stared down at her. He had to clench his hands at his side to keep himself steady.
Fuck, she was beautiful. She was more than beautiful. She was a goddess. She was something no one had created a word for yet. Because no other such creature had existed.
“Lose the blanket, Stella Jo.” His gravelly voice filled the small room.
She nodded, licked her lips, and slid the white comforter down. His eyes narrowed when he saw that she’d left her bra and underwear on.
“I said naked, cowgirl. But you know that, don’t you?”
“I was…” She paused to take a deep breath. “I thought I had more time.”
Setting the rope and riding crop on the bedside table, Van crossed his arms. “You have all the time in the world. Go ahead. I’ll wait.”
Her emerald eyes widened, meeting his with an ‘are you serious’ stare. He nodded once at her unspoken question.
She stood on shaking legs, and he resisted the urge to let her off the hook. She was nervous. She should be. He was going to do things to her that would wreck her—things she wouldn’t be able to forget for as long as she lived.
He planned to make damn sure of it.

REVIEW: Hothouse Flower by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Hothouse Flower (Calloway Sisters, #2; Addicted, #2.2)

Ryke Meadows, meet Daisy Calloway ... she’s all grown up.

Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.

And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.

Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.

As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto—“live as if you’ll die today”—may just come true.

"I'm drawn to Ryke the way penguins waddle in a group, one following the other, rarely all alone."

Dontcha' just love that quote? Dontcha'?? I mean that's ^^^^ why I love the Ritchie sisters!! I've seen love and relationships compared and described in so many fancy ways, but they chose penguins. AND HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! I'd totally be Ryke's penguin! Waddle behind him and watch his little bottom waddle too... ok, ok I'm getting a little carried away with the penguins. The book, lets talk about the book... ;)

If you don't read another word in this review, read this -- this series is a must read! At this point, I'm just so invested in this series that I think it's impossible for me to not like one of these books. I know these characters better than most of the characters in any books or series that I've read in a long time. The character development is just impeccable the whole way through. There isn't a single character in this series that I don't love. If I'm honest, I'm a little partial to Rose and Connor because I find every little awkward and strange thing they do to be absolutely hilarious, but I'm so in love with Ryke and Daisy too (and Lily and Lo. Gah, I love Lily and Lo). I love them all. Anyways, Daisy was a bit younger in the other books so she kind of flew in the background but that never stopped me from wanting her to be with Ryke. When I found out that Hothouse Flower was their story, I did a little dance!

It didn't disappoint. It so didn't disappoint.

So, in this book, you get to see all of the characters again *yay*, but the spotlight is on Daisy and Ryke.  In a nutshell, Daisy has been living under her mom's thumb for a long time. Her mom tries to cage her in but that's just like holding back the wind. You can't do it. Daisy is a free spirit. She does whatever the hell she wants and then thinks later. Ryke and Daisy have secretly built a solid friendship for years behind everyone's back, but when Daisy finds herself in a situation that allows her to break free from her mom for a little while, the story really takes off.  *sigh* Ryke and Daisy are two stubborn daredevils for sure. Needless to say, this was an entertaining read the whole way through. Sometimes their "live as if you'll die today" motto stressed me out to the max.  If these were real situations I'd totally be that friend hyperventilating on the sidelines!

I'm really at a loss for words. I'm such a fan. This series is simply incredible. How fitting that it's called the Addicted Series because I am so thoroughly addicted.  If you're new to the series, then you should definitely start with book 1 called Addicted to You. If you skip, you won't be as invested in the series as you should be.  I highly, highly recommend this series. HIGHLY!

REVIEW: The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller

Sometimes death isn't the end. Sometimes it's a beautiful beginning...

Death.

For some, it's simply one of life's certainties, nothing more. For others, it's merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.

For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.

As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.

Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three...

But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.

Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?

Will they be enough to finally bring about...

"I'll help you get lost any time, Sunshine. The only deal is you have to promise to come back. I never want to lose you again."

I need to give a shout out to Bianca in the Book Club for encouraging me to read this one. She's a smooth talker. Here's what she said about the book.

Bianca: "You'll cry for good things. Sad things. But most of all beautiful things."

And how right she was. I'm not sure I ever started crying, but I did get a little teary eyed in one particular spot.  To be honest, this is the best NA book I've read in awhile. It's exactly what I think NA should be. It's all about a girl named Raven Aubrey and her journey through college. She had a horrific past and she's managed to bury it deep within herself. She disguises herself as "Raven" in an attempt to keep everyone away. She thinks she's a walking death wish and that anyone that comes around her is in danger.  She meets her bubbly roommate and a boy from her past in college... and well the rest is what you'll have to read about.

Like I said, it's exactly what NA should be in my mind. Girl that's lost finds her way. She might find love. She might find peace. She might find happiness. But, mostly, she finds herself <--- my definition of NA.  I just adored the whole story. It was expertly written and totally original in the way that it was arranged.  I really have zero complaints because I was glued to my kindle for hours! There were a few spots where I thought, Ok this is a little far-out. Well at least I hope it's far out because it would really suck if all these bad things really happened to a person. But far-out or not, it worked. It sends a strong message to girls trying to find their place in life. It also sends a strong message to girls with low self esteem and girls that have lost all hope. Huge kudos to L.B. Simmons for writing  a book with such a strong and positive message. It was so nice to read such a quality story because they really are far and in between these days. *sigh* I'm getting all sentimental...

It's truly such a precious story. I urge you to read it. For me, it sits on a shelf right beside Slammed, The Sea of Tranquility, Hopeless, and the Crash series. <-- that, my friends, is my favorites shelf.

I could go on and on and tell you with a bunch of fancy words how much I enjoyed the book, but, really, I can sum it up pretty simply -- I. Loved. it.

MINI REVIEW: Veiled Innocence by Ella Frank

Tick, tick, tock.
Time.
That's all I have now.
A small room, a photograph, and time.
They want me to trust them and confess my sins.
They told me they wouldn't judge me -- they lied.
I thought we could convince the world that this wasn't a crime.
We were wrong.
Time doesn't stand still.
The clock keeps ticking, the world is unconvinced, and now...
Now he is gone.

"I'm your monster. She was so very wrong. I was honest enough to admit I was fighting myself. I'd become my own monster.

I finally read it! Oddly enough, I'm not a huge fan of this sort of student/teacher forbidden romance. After I received numerous recommendations from a few hardcore Ella Frank fans, I had to give in to the temptation to read this one though. I'm glad I did because it was intriguing from the very beginning. The forbidden aspect to the story didn't make me uncomfortable like most student/teacher romances. I liked the way it was handled (the girl is 18 and the teacher is 32). The author uses an unique approach to writing the story by alternating between past/present and by using two point of views.

It's just as suspenseful as it is romantic. If I'm honest, the suspense is what kept me going. I was jumping for joy every time I reached a "present" chapter. And, man, *fans self* Ella Frank does sexy and she does it well! The scenes were hot and intense. They were the kind of scenes that make me like to read steamy books. Plus, each of the sexy scenes were crucial to the development of the story and that's why I liked them. I did find myself able to put this down a few times (as much as I enjoyed it). However, all in all, this was a great book and I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely an Ella Frank fan now. As for the rating, I'm stuck between 4 and 5. I almost gave it 5, but I'm being a little stingy with that last star.
