BLOG TOUR & REVIEW: Take by Ella Frank

TAKE -- verb: to reach for and hold in one's hands or get into one's possession, power or control.
Logan Mitchell is a man who's always been more than happy to take what he wants. It's a philosophy that's proven lucrative in both his business and personal life, and never was it more apparent than the night he laid eyes on Tate Morrison. After pulling out all the stops and convincing the sexy bartender to give him a try -- he's hooked.
Now, Logan finds himself in a predicament that demands more from him than a smart-ass answer and his innate ability to walk away when things get too deep.
He has a choice to make, and it'll force him to do something he's never done before -- take a chance.
Tate Morrison knows all about taking a chance. He took the biggest one of his life the night he showed up at Logan's apartment to explore his unexpected reaction to the man. Ever since then, he's thought about little else.
At first he was convinced his attraction was based solely on his body's curiosity. But the more time he spends with the silver-tongued lawyer, the more Tate realizes that their physical chemistry is only the beginning. He's starting to catch a glimpse of what life with Logan would be like, and it's one full of excitement and satisfaction -- a far cry from what he had in the past with his soon to be ex-wife.
Each man will face their fears as they begin to understand the true meaning of give and take. Their feelings for one another will be tested, as will their very beliefs. But now that they've found love where they least expected it, will they be brave enough to reach out and take it?

REVIEW

Oh my lanta.

You know, I’m starting to think Ella Frank is some sort of super cyborg sent here to churn out novels with characters that capture my heart time and time again, and storylines that pull me under so forcefully that I never want to come up for air. Take is no exception, and even though I didn’t think it would be possible, I fell even more in love with Logan and Tate.

Take, the second book in the Temptation series, continues the story of Logan and Tate and this time around, things get…real. After being caught locking lips by his soon-to-be ex-wife and sister, Tate is faced with a life altering task: come out to his very conservative family. But Tate isn’t the only one with obstacles to overcome. After having his heart broken, Logan built up walls to keep people out and as much as he wants to tear them down and fully give his heart to Tate, it’s simply not that easy. As these two struggle to move their relationship forward, they learn that the only thing that really matters is how they feel about each other…and those are feelings that neither of them can deny.

So, it’s no surprise that I loved Try, but somehow I loved Take even more. This story kept the banter and flirtatiousness of Try, and added elements of maturity and love. Logan and Tate are forced to shed their insecurities and doubts, and are left standing in front of each other…vulnerable, open, and honest. Throughout the major struggles that these two are faced with in this novel, there are just as many playful, and delightfully dirty moments to create a perfect balance – Game Night was absolutely perfect :)

Ella’s writing, as always, is top notch. The story flows seamlessly, and while the ending was slightly predictable, it left me incredibly antsy to see what challenges are in store for Logan and Tate in the next installment of their love story. I have fallen head over heels in love with these two men and the beautiful story Ella has woven around them. If this woman ever stops writing, I don’t know what I’ll do. Her stories are brilliant, her characters are lovable and unique, and Take is just the latest work of wonder that Ella Frank has graced us with; if you haven’t met Logan and Tate yet, you are missing out on one of the best book couples I’ve ever met!

BLOG TOUR: Five Ways to Fall by K.A. Tucker

Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths,One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

I'm such a fan of this series.  It's just one of those that I've never been able to stop reading.  And this book was another hit! I knew I was a big fan of Ben, but I didn't know that I was THIS big of a fan of Ben. He's a keeper.

"So, when do you plan on growing up?"
"Never. Just call me Peter Pan."

As you already know, Four Seconds to Lose left off with Ben graduating from Law School and getting a  really wild send off party at Penny's. This picks up right after that when Ben is in Cancun. He meets a wild girl named Reese while he's in Cancun. While their meeting was unforgettable, it wasn't exactly romantic either. To sum it all up without giving anything away, Ben goes to work (unknowingly) at Reese's step-dad's law firm and they meet again. YAY ;)

Reese is recovering from a failed marriage (short-term) to a jerk that cheated on her and Ben is... just Ben. Sworn to singledom and checking out ladies like it's a side job.  Their story is witty and charming from the get-go and I really enjoyed it. I did miss the crew from the previous books though. They are only mentioned briefly and I didn't realize how much I would miss them!!

I definitely recommend this book and this entire series!

REVIEW

I just added a book to my favorites shelf!! Wow! It's been awhile. I have ZERO complaints. I loved this book from start to finish. It's incredibly emotional with A+ character development. I devoured it. It's kinda long but that wasn't a problem for me because I didn't want it to end. It's a heavy book so make sure you check that out if you're sensitive to certain subject matters.

Side note: I kept passing this book up because of the cover. After reading the book, I totally get it and love the cover, but I was expecting something "50ish"-- erotica -- and that IS NOT what this is. Far from it (thank goodness). So glad I finally picked it up because it was so good!

Rock Me (Ross Siblings, #2)Loving him couldn’t be worse than losing him. Could it?

Candace Andrews has had enough of pleasing others. In an act of birthday rebellion, she sets out to please herself—by walking into the tattoo parlor owned by her cousin’s ex-boyfriend. All she wants is a little ink, and Brian’s just the guy to give it to her.

As soon as she submits to his masterful hands, though, the forbidden attraction she’s always felt for him resurfaces…and she realizes the devilishly sexy artist could give her so much more.

Sweet, innocent Candace is the last person Brian expected to see again. She’s everything he’s not, and her family despises him. He doesn’t need the hassle, but he needs her, and this time no one is taking her away. Not even those who threaten to make his life a living hell.

Backed into a corner, Candace faces the worst kind of choice. Cave in to those who think Brian is a living nightmare…or hold her ground and risk it all for the one man who rocks her world.

Warning: This book contains explicit sex, naughty language, tattoos aplenty, family drama, a hot rock concert…and a bad boy hero who’s pierced in all the right places.

REVIEW

I don't want to give this book 4 stars, but I don't want to give it 5 either. I want to give it somewhere in between. Why isn't there an in between button?

I mean I really luuuurrrrvvved it! Like lurve! I had ZERO complaints until the end. And even in the end, I didn't have any serious complaints. I was just a little disappointed in Candace's reaction to a certain event (she drove me a little batty for a chapter). As a whole, the book was insanely good though. It was super hot. I'm not really a reader that goes for the "hot" factor either, but. this. was. hot. I couldn't put it down. Brian definitely made my male character favorite list.

It's a must read!!
"Not so bad, is it?"

Oh, but she wanted it bad, bad in the very best way.

REVIEW

I REALLY liked this one. When I wasn't reading, I wanted to be. I almost went for 5 stars just because this book gave me that just-can't-stop-reading feeling. That feeling is so hard to come by these days. It wasn't perfect for me though. I think that's because I'm just not super crazy about suspense novels lately. I've watched enough SVU to last me a lifetime. The suspense was good, but I caught myself just twiddling my thumbs waiting for those romantic moments. Plus, I thought the action towards the end was a tad far out (just a little). I'm such a girl, I know.

The love aspect to the story was written so well though.I felt every bit of it. I was invested in the relationship from the first chapter and on. I thought the writing was great actually, and I'll definitely have this author on my radar from here on out! I absolutely recommend this one. It was a completely addicting read.

BLOG TOUR + REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: Where There's Smoke by Elizabeth Lee

Where There's Smoke Front Cover

There is something to be said for letting go. Ryland Roberts knows that better than anyone. He'd let go of his ambitions, of his family and—most of all—of her. He'd perfected the art of putting his past behind him and accepted the fact that the town he wanted to leave in his rearview was the place where he was going to live out his days. But sometimes the past doesn't just go away. Sometimes it comes back to haunt you. Piper Jameson convinced herself that she left for all the right reasons. She'd saved people by leaving—made sure that they weren't tainted by her rebellious ways. When her little sister asks her to come home and say goodbye to their ailing mother, she's forced to see that things aren't always as they seem. The people who she'd left behind might not have been saved at all. In the amount of time it takes a bullet to travel from point A to point B, Piper and Ryland will have to put their feelings for each other aside and make a choice. Forced on the run with Piper's sister, they begin to understand that the future they thought was gone was never really lost.

Amazon Barnes & Noble

What an enthralling start to a new series! Where There's Smoke is nothing like I expected it to be and everything that I needed it to be.

Original
Captivating.
Edgy
Suspenseful

This novel really showed how much range Elizabeth Lee has as an author. I loved that she changed it up while still keeping her usual style intact. One of the things that I have always loved about this author's work is the witty, sarcastic bite in the character's dialogue. Where There's Smoke delivered.

So what's this book about? I have to be vague. Basically, this is a second chance romance between two high school sweethearts. They set the town on fire (literally) back in the day and were torn apart. Feelings were hurt. Trust was stolen. Hearts were broken. So... imagine the drama when Piper returns to town to see her dying mother. She's not exactly welcomed back with broken arms - by her step dad or Ryland, her high school sweetheart. In fact, the only thing that Piper and Ryland can agree on is that they need to watch out for Piper's little sister, Hadley. Could that be the one thing that brings them together? I can't tell but I will tell you that some CRAZY stuff happens. Crazy, crazy. Like crazy enough to send Piper, Ryland, and Hadley on the run. Gotta love three fugitives ;)

All in all, this is an exceptional read. It's action-packed, mysterious, sweet, and sensual in all the right places. All that crazy that I mentioned other is balanced off with a realistic take on rekindled love. Plus, there's a great side story that's developed in the background. I can't wait to get my hands on There's Fire later this year to read Hadley's story!

Excerpt:
I stretched my arm out and placed a hand on the cool concrete, the grit and dirt sticking to my palm. Such a contrast to the warmth I felt with Ryland firmly pressed up against me. The curves of my backside fit perfectly against his long, lean frame, our skin heating up the chill around us. The fall weather had descended upon our small Midwestern town almost overnight. It seemed like only a week or two ago we had been wearing shorts and flip-flops. Now it was jeans and jackets. Well, actually, now it was nothing. I felt my cheeks heat as I thought about what we had just done. I wasn't embarrassed. Far from it. In fact, I'd never felt more sure about anything in my entire life as I was about what had just happened with Ry. “That was incredible,” he whispered against my neck as he traced lazy circles on my shoulder with his fingertips. “Yeah,” I breathed, rolling onto my back to look up at him. The soft glow of an outdoor utility light crept through the open side of the airplane hangar, barely lighting up the space. “Never imagined our first time being on a blanket spread out on a cold, hard floor, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.” “Me too. Let’s get on that then,” he said with a wicked grin before he pressed his lips to mine. Propping himself on one arm—his hand resting against the side of his head—he snaked his free hand under one of the flannel blankets he'd commandeered from an airplane parked beside us. I liked this side of him. The side that wasn't perfect and calculated. The side that just did, said, and felt what he wanted. He was literally feeling his way up my body—his hands smooth and rough all at the same time—sending all of my teenage hormones spiraling out of control. We were living in the moment, which was exactly where I preferred to be. “You know how much I love you, right?” His face became very serious, almost concerned. “I wanted tonight to be special. I thought we'd go back to my house after we looked at the planes. My parents are gone and...” He was back in his head, thinking about his meticulously thought-out evening. Doubting his ability to be perfect. He did this sometimes—overanalyzed things. “It didn't go exactly as I planned, but—” “It was perfect,” I assured him. “Plans, schmans.” I pulled his face to mine, giggling, my lips barely grazing his. “And I love you, too.” That was the thing about Ryland—I saw a side of him that no one else saw. I could probably say the same for him about me. Until him, I’d never felt like I was going to amount to much, but he believed in me, even when I didn't—which was most of the time. When I was with him, I didn't feel like I needed to do everything in my power to piss people off. He made me want to stay in this Godforsaken town with a family that ignored my existence. They ignored it until I did something wrong—which was about ninety percent of the time. Then my stepfather made sure to let me just how worthless I was. “So do you feel like a rebel?” I asked. “This being your first breaking and entering and all.” It had been his idea to sneak on to the airfield—something that was much more in my wheelhouse than his. I was the one who usually threw caution to the wind. He was the good boy. The straight-A student. The doting son. “Oh yeah.” He laughed. “I'm a regular badass. Nothing like walking through an open gate to an abandoned shed.” He cast his arm out sarcastically in the vacant space above our heads. Nothing but sheet metal and wooden beams. A handful of airplanes were parked around us with a smattering of fuel cans, tools, and parachutes hanging from the walls. “I'm not sure we actually broke into anything. More like casually strolled in.” We lived in a town where people left their front doors unlocked. The kind of town where everyone knew everyone and all of their business. Truitville. It was a place with a minimal crime rate. I think that night, that's what we’d both thought: What's the worst that could happen? “So what's next then, Clyde? Wanna rob a bank?”

BLOG TOUR + REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: Last Second Chance (Second Chance #1) by Caisey Quinn

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?

What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he'll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.

Caisey Quinn brought her sexy all the way up to 10! Last Second Chance was a provocative and intimate read that kept me up late into the night. It was edgy and fast paced and while it did push my boundaries, I found it to be completely relatable and addicting.  I was totally unable to put it down. A must read!

So without giving anything away, this novel is about a rock star that has hit rock bottom. He was given an ultimatum - go to rehab or no music deal. He's definitely not excited about this forced rehab stint but he'll do anything he can to hang on to his music career. Things start to look up when he hits rehab and runs into the new sexy little employee named Stella. Van knows from the very beginning that his attraction to her isn't something he should give in to. She's different from all his other conquests. She's something he's not sure he's ready for.

Then there's Stella. She's jumping headfirst into a new job at Last Second Chance Ranch. She needs this job because she doesn't want to go running back to her hometown. Her parents are an issue that she doesn't want to deal with quite yet. Or ever. Stella loves horses and is excited to find out that she can help out in the stables at Last Second Chance Ranch. She has no idea what she's in for when she meets Van.  They both bring steam to those stables. Lots of steam!  They are playing with fire because they are risking it all for each other as their careers hang in the balance.

Overall, this is a sexy little read. While it's a tad edgier than  Caisey Quinn's other work, it still has that spark that her fans love so much. I found the characters to be completely relatable along with their relationship. This book was so intimate while showing the tumultuous side of Van and Stella's relationship at the same time. I loved Stella because she was a female character that I could relate too, and I loved Van because he was one of those redeemable bad boys that I can never get enough of. Basically, I loved Van and Stella-- Team Vanella!! I can't wait to get my hands on more books in this series. This is a standalone with a sweet ending.

1.    My MacBook Air (& its charger)– It’s light and travels well!

2.    My headphones/ear buds – Because not everyone in the library/bookstore/coffee shop wants to hear my Spotify book soundtrack apparently. (weirdos)

3.    A pen & notebook – Yes, I write lots of things out by hand still! Call me old fashioned! #iprefervintage

4.    My iPhone – The notes app is my friend!

5.    Bottled water – so I don’t dehydrate

6.    Iced coffee – So I can stay awake

7.    My reading glasses – For years I got migraines while typing, until I started wearing them! #lifesaver

8.    Snacks – Sometimes it’s chocolate, or granola and dried fruit, or a protein bar, just something so I don’t get hunger headaches.

9.    Pepcid Complete – Not kidding. My characters give me indigestion. Or it could be number 6…

10.  Excedrin Migraine – Are you sensing a theme with the headaches yet? Hours at the computer and looong nights make this miracle drug very necessary. I might be slowly destroying my liver or something, but writers gotta write! ;)

Mini Review: Under Different Stars (Kricket #1) by Amy A. Bartol

Under Different Stars (Kricket, #1)

All she wants is a home, but can she find one…UNDER DIFFERENT STARS

Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.

Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.

Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket’s gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.

When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

This book is pure gold. Everything about it. The writing is insanely good. To be honest, I'm in awe of the author's talent. The storyline was so intricate but enthralling at the same time. The world that the author created is just so...cool. I love the way the story let it all unravel too. Instead of boring me with chapters of information and history about this new world, Bartol gradually revealed all of that information within the dialogue. It was just so entertaining.

It's action-packed, sweet, intense, and so funny. I laughed out loud too many times to count. It's a sweet romance that doesn't end on a cliffhanger. There is probably going to be some bumps in the road in book 2 though. No. Definitely.

This is probably my favorite read of the year. It's sitting right beside Heather Lyon's Fate series. They are both so good. I know some people are skittish of paranormal books, but that's because they're reading the wrong ones! This will turn your love of paranormal books back on for sure!

Biggest *sigh* everrrrr. This is a series that I will never forget. It really has one of the most brilliant, creative, and intense storylines that I've ever read. My emotions were all over the place!

I've never read a more bittersweet series. I can't even begin to describe the feeling that I had when I finished this book. It was sort of like extreme happiness mixed with extreme sorrow mixed with understanding plus a little irrationality on my part. I mean... this series put me through the ringer emotionally yet it's one of my top favorite series. I'm not saying that flippantly either. When I first stumbled upon A Matter of Fate (Fate #1), I read all three of the first books in a three day window. I haven't been that absorbed or obsessed with a series in a long time. Long, long time.

As we all know, the last book left off on a intense cliffhanger. A Matter of Forever picks up right after that and the intensity is off the charts starting at page 1. I had NO idea what was going on. I was totally freaking out. Actually, I was pretty much freaking out the entire time. Even though I knew that Chloe had made her choice in the last book, things still felt unsettled to me because I knew that the other person was still hurting. I've never hurt so much for a character in my life! I wanted it all to be better for him, but it really was a lose/lose situation. Another long *sighhhhh*

I don't know what to say. I don't want to give anything away. If you've read this far into the series, I feel like there's no need for me to convince you to read this book because you're going to read it anyway (how couldn't you? lol). I will tell you that things are settled at the end but so bittersweet. Incredibly bittersweet. I've rarely ever felt so connected to a group of characters before. I felt their pain and their happiness. I worried for them. I cried for them. I just felt for them. Ohhhh the feels... I really believe the series ended where it was supposed to though.

This is truly an incredible conclusion a series that is on my top recommendation list. If you were my bff, I'd tell you to read this series (in fact, I did tell my bff to read it).

5 STARS

CHARACTERS FAVORITE THINGS:

Chloe, Jonah, Kellan, Will, and Callie from the Fate series sat down and shared what some of their currently favorites are . . .

FAVORITE TV SHOW

Chloe: New Girl. It totally makes me laugh.

Jonah: Uh, do sports count?

Kellan: SportsCenter does, bro. So that’s my answer. SportsCenter.

Will: Deadliest Catch, naturally.

Callie: Project Runway. I’ll even watch the re-runs.

FAVORITE FOOD

Chloe: Hot dogs! Mmm…

Jonah: It depends on my mood. I really like Chinese, though.

Kellan: Chinese is good. So is Indian. Curry is my fave.

Will: Pancakes. Specifically my pancakes.

Callie: Does tea count?

FAVORITE MOVIE

Chloe: Amelie! Thank goodness for subtitles.

Jonah: Old School—right, Kel?

Kellan: Hell yeah. Old School is awesome. We must have watched it a hundred times in high school.

Will: Pacific Rim was brilliant.

Callie: Breakfast at Tiffany’s

FAVORITE MUSIC

Chloe: I love Taylor Swift. LOVE HER.

Jonah: I do not love Taylor Swift. But I do dig Death Cab for Cutie.

Kellan: I’m in a big AC/DC phase.

Will: Frightened Rabbit. They’re a bloody brilliant Scottish band everyone needs to listen to.

Callie: Chloe, I agree about Taylor Swift. I love her. But I’d say I’m really partial to Miranda Lambert lately.

FAVORITE COLOR

Chloe: Blue. Specifically cerulean.

Jonah: Green. Specifically light green.

Kellan: Yellow. I mean, why else would I have a yellow car?

Will: Uh . . . I don’t have a favorite color.

Callie: Everyone has a favorite color, Will. You wear a lot of red, so just go with that? I’ll pick silver.

FAVORITE BOOK

Chloe: Jonah and I have the same favorite book, I think—isn’t that funny? Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. I love that it speaks to both of us.

Jonah: She’s right. It’s an amazing book. I’ve read it like five times.

Kellan: I’m all about On the Road by Jack Kerouac. My copy is totally marked up.

Will: Hmm . . . I really like About a Boy by Nick Hornby.

Callie: Is it weird I love A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett? Because that’s a beautiful story.
