The Book
Camouflaged (Hiding From Love Novella
#0.5)
Gabe Thompson enlisted to help out his
buddy, but three years later he's 100% US military bad boy, serving in the
desert of Afghanistan where the days are hot, but the nights are hotter.
Alexis Garcia is out to save the world. The University of Texas freshman has
come to Afghanistan to do aid work with the United Nations. She's all about the
peace, and she has no use for the camp's biggest, baddest, gun toting player.
But, sometimes camouflage is more than a color, and people aren't what they
seem. When conflict develops not only between Gabe and Alexis, but also all
around them, they're forced to look deeper, and what they find will rock their
worlds and change their hearts forever.
Camouflaged
is the prequel novella to Top 100 bestselling Military Romance, Hidden.
Excerpt
I focused on those gorgeous lips. “I think you’re all bark and no bite, and that you’re trying to chase me away with your bad attitude because you’re afraid of me. I bet you like to be in control of everything all the time, don’t you?”
She swallowed and I felt everything below my belt tighten to the point of pain. I dug my hand into the hunk of hair at the back of her head and gently pulled her toward me. She didn’t resist as my heart rate picked up and her breaths came in little pants.
“You’re afraid you won’t be able to control a guy like me, aren’t you? And you know what? You’re right. You wouldn’t be able to control me. But I’d take you on the ride of your life, and you’d thank me for it afterwards.” I leaned in ever so slowly, my lips hovering over hers as her eyes fluttered shut. I could feel the heat from her face, and her chest grazed mine, setting off sparks all up and down my spine. Her hair was like strands of silk, and I gripped the back of her head tighter, pulling her that infinitesimal bit closer. She had a quick intake of breath and I felt my chest clutch.
My Review
Gabe Thompson isn't a player or a womanizer, but a guy who loves casual sex and doesn't do relationships. He's upfront about it right away, but for some reason the ladies always end up falling for him. He's a hot as sin military man who certainly knows his way around the bedroom. Currently on his second tour in Afghanistan, Gabe is more than ready to go home to join his best friend, Nick, in the civilian world.
Alexis Garcia is an eighteen year old freshman intern who goes to Gage's base to do humanitarian work with the United Nations. When Gage first meets Alexis, he's quick to turn on the charm. Unfortunately for him, she's having none of it, and basically tells him to get lost because she's not falling for the smooth-talking guy that she recognizes as a player.
When Gabe is assigned to be Alexis's personal security, sparks begin to fly and it becomes more than obvious that they're both attracted to each other. However, Alexis is still resistant to his charms. One fateful day while on a routine delivery, they run into trouble and find themselves hiding from the enemy in a confined space. As they face their greatest danger, will they find solace in each other's arms, or will Alexis continue to resist?
I completely enjoyed this sweet military romance novella! This was my first novel of Ms. Laurence's that I've read, and it certainly won't be my last. I loved how Gabe was upfront with who he was, and it was so much fun watching him transform from the guy who doesn't do relationships, to the guy who wanted one more than anything with the one girl who could resist him. As much as I wanted Alexis to just give in, I really enjoyed the way that she didn't make it easy on him. It was fun watching him squirm! Being in the military myself, a few of the events were a bit unrealistic, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment at all. I definitely recommend this book & I'll be jumping into Hidden next. I really hope we get more of Gabe and Alexis in the future, because there is so much more to tell!
